An Operating System is the software which interacts with the hardware of a computer and is the intermediary between the installed applications and the hardware, including peripheral devices such as a printer, a computer mouse or a keyboard. When you run an application, it transmits requests to the OS through an API (Application Program Interface) and the contact is done via a command line or a Graphical User Interface (GUI). Identical to a personal computer, hosting servers also feature an Operating System that functions as a host for any software installed on them, including script applications or server-side software such as a flash server, a VOIP server, and many others. A virtual machine can be created on a physical one, so you can install a guest OS on it and have a different system environment in contrast with the physical server host OS.
Multiple OS in VPS
We offer you as many as three different Linux distributions for the Operating System of our virtual private servers - Debian, CentOS and Ubuntu. These are some of the most stable and reliable OSs available on the market and we provide all 3 instead of just 1 as we realize that you may want to install some software which has specific requirements for the Operating System it will run on. The latter is because each of the three Operating Systems has a large support community behind it and there're different software programs you may install on the hosting server. Your OS choice will also determine what hosting Control Panel can be installed on the VPS in case you would like to use one and that's why we offer multiple Control Panels as well. If you ever decide that you want some other OS, our tech support team can quickly wipe the existing one and install the one that you want. We also offer an optional service to have the OS on your VPS updated weekly.
Multiple OS in Dedicated Hosting
In case you decide to acquire one of our dedicated servers, you shall find three Operating Systems on the order page since we want to give you a larger choice for the system environment on your server as different apps can have particular requirements. CentOS, Ubuntu and Debian feature different modules developed by their huge support communities, so you can select each of these OSs and enjoy a reliable and safe Internet hosting service. Based on your selection, you will also have different Control Panels to choose from. Of course, we can always replace the Operating System if the one you've selected in the beginning doesn't meet the requirements of the software that you'd like to run. We can also upgrade the OS regularly to keep it as secure as possible using our Managed Services upgrade package.
